Our Story

While technology has woven us into a global tapestry, it has also fragmented our local communities. Village Builders seeks to reweave these connections, fostering a sense of belonging in a digital age.

For Simone, mothering a toddler during the Covid19 lockdown showed just how vital community support can be. For Adam, raising teens revealed an alarming degree of anxiety and disconnection in our youth. It is clear: something has to be done to resolve these preventable problems.

Having experienced the transformative, healing power of genuine friendship and community, Simone and Adam wondered:

How can we help others build the kind of strong, supportive relationships we’ve been fortunate enough to co-create?

Drawing on their backgrounds in technology, global systems, and community building, Simone and Adam strive to host programs that make interpersonal connections easier and more natural, one relationship at a time.

Tackling loneliness is a collective effort and we see our role as more than just building an app — it’s about actively contributing to a larger movement for authentic connection and community.

Meet the Founders

Adam Rose

(he/him)

I’ve spent much of my career as a technologist working on projects like  the International Space Station, next-generation telecommunications, and high-transaction advertising platforms. I’m an entrepreneur and an executive, but most importantly, I’m a leader who believes in empowering my team by supporting them with resources and encouragement, then stepping back to let them shine.

While I’ve always been drawn to resolving technical engineering problems, I’m even more passionate about creating solutions for human challenges.

Born in Canada and raised in a home that valued conducting a life of service, I’m excited to co-lead Village Builders on a mission-driven journey to reduce loneliness and build stronger communities. This is my chance to help leave the world a bit better than I found it.

Simone Torrey

(she/they)

I’m a facilitator, systems thinker, and entrepreneur with over 15 years of experience bringing people together to co-create shared solutions. My career has centered on fostering belonging and driving transformation. My influence has ranged from facilitating Tanzania’s national workforce strategy creation to negotiating between Occupy the Farm activists and UC Berkeley.

At Village Builders, I harness my visionary leadership, extensive global network, and expertise in community-building to create traction for our initiative.

Originally from Germany, I’ve lived and worked across Europe, Africa, and now the Bay Area — the traditional land of the Ohlone people. Frequent moves into unfamiliar cultures and working in a diverse range of contexts has taught me how to build meaningful connections quickly — but becoming a mother has shown me how to put down roots and show up for people consistently.
